History of Vermont Good Wood

For more years than I care to mention I’ve come home from a day at the office (talking on the phone, drinking coffee) and enjoyed a nice real wood fire and an adult beverage. It’s certainly great to put your feet up and feel the warmth.

Over the years I became frustrated with the quality and consistency of the available fire wood. My local firewood guys claimed their wood's is “seasoned” but it often required constant poking and prodding just to keep it going. You just couldn't count on it. I also tested the type of wood you buy packaged at supermarkets and gas stations and found it to, frankly, stink.

As for fake logs, well they simply don’t do it for me.

So I went on a quest to find really good wood...the kind of stuff that would meet my standards…and I hope yours too. You might say I became obsessed with good wood.

I found a fellow in central Vermont, who was kiln drying Vermont hard woods and selling it to high end resorts like the Trapp Family Lodge and restaurants with wood fired ovens. I took some home and guess what? It was remarkable. It lit right away and three logs in the fireplace lasted an unbelievable amount of time.

This product had never ever made it to the New York Metro Area. My Vermont acquaintance was selling all he could make in the North Country. I had to get my hands on some of this and share it with others who would appreciate the good stuff.

So enjoy yourself!

Oh yes, your feedback is appreciated.
